The Generator Service Technician in Valleyview, AB is primarily responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing diesel and natural gas engine-generator sets in various locations across Alberta and British Columbia. Troubleshoot operational failures of generators, along with delivering equipment to customer sites. Class 3 or 1 Operator's License with good defensive driving skills is required.

The successful candidate will be resident in Valleyview, AB.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain engines used in prime and standby power equipment such as electric generators and industrial machinery;
  • Responsible for the mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of controls and accessories such as batteries, battery chargers, heaters, motors and pumps, and all other components in a diesel generator;
  • Perform preventive maintenance on power generation equipment;
  • Identify additional repairs needed such as replacing belts, hoses, batteries, fan hubs, etc.;
  • Diagnose problems using laptop computer and software and process required paperwork in a timely manner;
  • Communicating repairs to both the customer and managers in a timely manner
  • Responsible for parts inventory, maintenance and cleanliness of service truck;
  • Maintain a library or database of service related literature or information;
  • Responsible for tracking time and expenses daily;
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance, mileage logs and records;
  • Keep accurate logbooks and work within hours of service guidelines;
  • Answer appropriate customer inquiries satisfactorily and request help in locating proper information as necessary to resolve issues;
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures and directions regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments;
  • Flexibility to work in a 7/24 environment, frequent travel required and be on-call on a rotational basis;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies Required:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills (verbal and written);
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls as required;
  • Ability to follow instruction, work well with direct supervision and apply knowledge from past jobs to future work.

Qualification Requirements: (Minimum Education and Experience):

  • A high regard for safety policy and procedure;
  • Experience with maintenance and a working knowledge of diesel engines, specific generator experience with basic electrical understanding would be preferred;
  • Ability to learn relays, digital/analog inputs-outputs and PLC's;
  • Ability to trouble-shoot problems with generators, automatic transfer switches and switchgear would be an asset;
  • Require a minimum of 2-3 years' work experience in industrial mechanical-electrical troubleshooting and/or repairs of power generation, alternators and control systems.
  • Class 3 or 1 operator's license with good defensive driving skills;

Technical Requirements (software or program knowledge needed):

  • Required to maintain training in WHMIS, TDG, H2S and Defensive Driving;
  • Log book training.
