ABOUT THE ROLE
The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is seeking a dependable individual with a strong ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with a team, to fill the Senior Administrator, Information Technology position. This position is responsible for a full range of information technology functions, including the role of system and network administrator for the organization. This role supports, maintains, evaluates, and advises on FMFN's IT systems, aimed at optimizing performance and ensuring reliable operations. This is a permanent full-time position and is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly, located in Fort McKay, AB.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

General Duties:
• Provides functional and technical advice on information systems management, policy, and service delivery, aligned with best practices.
• Creates, organizes, and updates documentation of IT processes, policies, licensing and systems.
• Coaches, mentors, and provides support to other IT staff.
• Provides IT related training to employees, as required.
• Assesses physical and technical security risks to data, software and hardware.
• Keeps current with technological advancements, shares knowledge, and fosters a culture of continual learning and improvement within the team.

System Administrator:
• Installs new/rebuilds existing servers and configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
• Researches and recommends innovative, and automated approaches for system administration tasks.
• Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
• Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
• Performs daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
• Performs regular file archival and purge as necessary.
• Creates, changes, and deletes user accounts per request.
• Provides Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigates and troubleshoots issues.
• Repairs and recovers from hardware or software failures. Coordinates and communicates with impacted constituencies.

Microsoft Exchange System Administrator:
• Plans and executes growth and expansion, including new site deployment, hardware and software upgrades, existing deployment reconfiguration, enhanced resilience, additional provisional storage.
• Administers non-exchange servers and services (Active Directory, DNS). Creates new accounts and assigns mailboxes to accounts created in other departments.
• Provides client support, responding to help desk requests.
• Maintenance (weekend and monthly): Applies security updates (OS and services); and checks application, system, event, AV, and spam logs.
• Manages and tests backups, including checking backup logs for execution and periodically performing simulated restorations.
• Manages Exchange storage including quotas, moving mailboxes, additional provisional storage, and monitoring capacity.
• Manages 3rd party applications and services (email archiving, anti-virus and spam filtering) and responds to help desk escalations.

Network Administrator:
• Establishes network specifications by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, access, information, and security requirements; designing router administration, including interface configuration and routing protocols.
• Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.
• Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor.
• Performs other related duties as required.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or another related degree program is required.
• CompTIA, Network+, or Microsoft Certifications are definite assets.
• Five (5) years of proven experience as an IT Administrator, IT Specialist, or similar role, with strong knowledge of Microsoft server products, Microsoft Exchange, Windows Operating Systems, Backup Software, Email Management software, and Networking Equipment.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Strong skills in networking, database administration, IT security, cloud management, and end user training
• Experience working in an Indigenous community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an asset.
• Valid class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract Required
• Clean criminal record check is required
