Morningstar Air Express Inc. (MAEI) is seeking an additional full-time experienced Software Developer at our Edmonton International Airport head office, reporting to the Director of Information Technology. The position involves development of custom in-house software that manages flights, crew members, aircraft, and safety.


Duties and Responsibilities


Application Function and Uptime:

  • Flight Tracking
  • Crew Portal
  • Safety Database
  • Microsoft Access-based Flight Tracking
  • Other in-house applications for MAEI and sister companies, as needed


Application Development:

  • Analyze business needs in conjunction with stakeholders
  • Prioritize development of enhancements and fixes with stakeholders
  • Design and plan enhancements (fixes and features)
  • Implement and test changes
  • Deploy new changes
  • Track problems and ensure good health of software systems
  • Participate in maintenance of software group documentation of procedures, best practices, and code.

Skills used on a regular basis include:

  • Software and User interface design
  • Java 8+
  • Swing; Jaret Timebars
  • J2EE Application Server (Tomcat 9.x+)
  • SQL database (SQL Server/SQL Express 12.x+; PostgreSQL; Pervasive PSQL/Actian Zen), JDBC
  • JAX-WS (Java SOAP web services)
  • JUnit testing
  • JSF 2.x with Primefaces
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript & jQuery
  • JasperReports, Apache POI
  • Eclipse IDE
  • SVN
  • Jenkins build server and Ant
  • Trac (issue tracker and wiki)


Successful applicant must have a minimum 3 years experience with a representative variety of the skills listed above (or equivalents, e.g. Glassfish or JBoss instead of Tomcat).


Familiarity with any of the following may be beneficial but are not required:

  • Aircraft industry experience
  • Cucumber testing
  • Pair programming; Agile programming (such as Scrum)
  • Hibernate
  • Linux; command line and basic shell scripting
  • Excel, other MS Office products
  • GIS experience; Algebra, geometry
  • iPad/iPhone and/or Android app development
  • Git
  • Maven
