The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (OEDI) leads the implementation of NAIT's EDI Strategy by fostering dialogue and applying best practice to effect meaningful change. The Office supports staff to build competence in EDI and identify strategies and tactics to dismantle barriers for equity-deserving groups. Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, EDI, the Specialist is responsible for developing, coordinating and evaluating programs and initiatives that contribute to the recruitment and retention of women in the Red Seal Skilled Trades at NAIT. Working closely with colleagues in the Office of Apprenticeship and NAIT's seven schools, the incumbent will support the success of women apprentices through community building, barrier removal, and initiatives that enhance the inclusion of women in the classroom and curriculum.

Skills & Abilities:
Ability to research, comprehend, and apply theories and best practices related to EDI
Advanced knowledge of issues facing women in the skilled trades
Understanding of Alberta's Apprenticeship Model of Education
Excellent verbal communication skills, including ability to influence leaders and explain complex topics to folks new or resistant to the ideas/theories
Able to interact (and maintain composure) with people who are resistant to change, especially related to advancing EDI
Substantial knowledge and experience with event planning
Exceptional workshop development, facilitation and evaluation skills
Strategic thinking, critical thinking, and goal development
Ability to work with cross-campus partners, staff, administration, and outside agencies
Flexibility, willingness to learn new approaches, ability to synthesize information and develop innovative solutions to problems
Superior organizational and time management skills to ensure delivery of services and special projects are within standards and budget
Experience using with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and PeopleSoft
A high level of self-awareness and the capacity to work in complex environments of diverse populations
Understanding of NAIT's mission, goals, and values
Qualifications:
Minimum two-year related diploma required; Undergraduate degree preferred, in a related field of study including, but not limited to: education, sociology, women and gender studies, queer studies, social work, and political science is preferred. A Master's degree would be an asset. Equivalencies may be considered.
Preference may be given to applicants with a journeyperson certificate in a Red Seal Skilled trade or experience working with apprentices or tradespeople.
Due to the focus of this project being Women in Skilled Trades, preference may be given to women with experience in the trades or to applicants with extensive experience supporting women in the trades.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $71,098.04 - $95,372.94 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Advisor/Specialist II).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
