NAIT's Digital Media and IT (DMIT) program is seeking two highly experienced, dynamic, and energetic instructors with a passion for sharing expertise in game design and animation. Currently, the DMIT program's Game Design concentration equips students to design and create video game assets and animation, taking projects from concept art through to asset creation in both 2D and 3D media. The Animation area further prepares students for diverse roles in film, games, architectural visualization, industrial simulations, concept design, and illustration. As DMIT transitions next fall into multiple specialized programs—including a dedicated Animation and Game Design specialization—these roles offer an exciting opportunity to contribute to the evolving curriculum and help shape the future of industry-focused education at NAIT.

The successful candidate should be student-centered, have strong organizational skills and be committed to student success, with excellent communication skills in both written and oral English. Strong analytical, problem solving, critical-thinking and decision-making skills are required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present courses in both classroom and lab settings.
  • Organize and supervise practical assignments.
  • Conduct student evaluations and maintain progress records.
  • Seek regular feedback from students and staff on instructional effectiveness and relevance.
  • Participate in course review, program review and curriculum development.
  • Maintain contact with relevant industries.
  • Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Develop and revise course material and curriculum on an ongoing basis to ensure relevancy to industry standards and to maximize student success

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency with game engines (like Unity or Unreal Engine)
  • Proficiency in animation software like Adobe After Effects, Illustrator and Photoshop, Z-Brush, Quixel Mixer, Maya, and Blender.
  • Able to guide students in aspects of character design, environment creation, and the overall aesthetic of game design and animation.
  • Practical experience in the gaming and animation industry
  • Familiarity with high-performance computers, graphics tablets (e.g., Wacom), and VR/AR equipment for immersive experiences.
  • Knowledge of rendering software like Renderman or Arnold for creating lifelike scenes.
  • Knowledge of Motion Capture Technology For creating realistic animations based on real-life movements.
  • Ability to create game-level designs, character designs, environments, and in-game animations (rigging and modelling).
  • Ability to create Animated features, shorts, and special effects for live-action movies.
  • Proficient in 2D and 3D character animation

Qualifications:

  • A master's degree (preferred) or degree or diploma in a media-related program along with 5 years of related industry experience is required
  • Previous teaching experience would be an asset
  • Equivalencies may be considered

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

Remuneration: Will commensurate with education and experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Instructor salary grid $65,218.00 - $113,452.00 annually. However, starting salary for new hires averages between $78,998.00 - $85,889.00 annually based on education and experience with room for negotiations. (Classification - Instructor).

This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement
