The Senior Data Analytics Strategist position leads the translation of business strategies and requirements into specific data solutions, taking overall responsibility for all aspects of solution delivery, from inception through design and implementation. The role oversees and coordinates daily operations support activities including troubleshooting, maintaining, enhancing, and monitoring analytics and business intelligence solutions. Primary Duties include: 

  • Build data pipelines to bring together information from different source systems and transforms them into a format that can be easily analyzed.
  • Build data warehousing and data integration solutions and develop, maintain, and test infrastructures for data generation long with overseeing architecting solutions that integrate, consolidate, cleanse, and structure data for use in analytics and dashboard applications.
  • Design, develop, document, and perform data quality checks across the data assets under the Data & Analytics domain and maintain data quality assurance throughout the data repositories to ensure the quality of data delivered to internal partners and the public from our various products.
  • Work with clients to enhance delivered solutions through needs assessment , business requirements and adapting solutions to meet current business practices or requirements by liaising with other groups to provide data insights and the story behind them.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to business units in implementing approved initiatives regarding dashboarding and reporting ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, adheres to high quality standards, and meets customer expectations.
  • Document the data structures of all systems involved in data integration as the source, target, or staging. Include business and technical definitions (structure, format, size).
  • Be part of the group as point of contact for data governance and planning around how the data is structured, collected, and used for the purposes of creating an overall better online experience across all City digital services.
  • Support business areas and corporate functions in understanding and realizing the benefits of governing and managing their data with expanding the Corporate Data & Analytics strategy as a foundation for them.
  • Support deployment and utilization of technology and data governance tools enhancing data maturity and compliance e.g. business data glossary, data catalog, master data management and data lineage.
  • Assist in enhancement of the strategy and collaborative plan to address the data needs, how data can be used and collected, risks and opportunities identified enhancing overall experiences across digital services helping in identifying gaps in data.
  • Proven effectiveness in achieving consensus across a broad array of partners; Ability to apply and coach the principles of data excellence, including development of problem statements and best practice action plans.

Qualifications 

  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, data engineering or related. 
  • At least 8 years of related professional experience including at least 4 years of applied experience in: 
    • Data warehousing, business intelligence, data modelling, data mining, data architecture, and data integration and databases, SQL, ETL, BI (Business Intelligence) tools, SAP Universe Design tool, Information Design Tool, Business Objects, or equivalencies; and business analysis, technology project management, product delivery, customer liaison, or business strategy. 
  • Success in this position requires strong problem solving and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and communication skills.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Position Type: 1 Permanent & 1 Temporary (up to 23 months) 

Location: 800 Macleod Trail S.E.

Compensation: Pay Grade 13 $49.32 - $66.00 per hour 

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day 

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle. 

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
