This is a hybrid work position in Calgary Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) a minimum of 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Overview of role:

WestJet is seeking a dynamic and strategic NDC (New Distribution Capability) product analyst to lead the design, development, and delivery of cutting-edge airline distribution solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of IATA's NDC standards, airline distribution ecosystems, and product management principles. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance customer experiences, drive business value, and shape the future of airline retailing.


Key deliverables include:

Product Strategy and Vision:

  • Define and communicate a compelling product vision and roadmap for NDC, aligning with business goals and industry treads.
  • Research and analyze advancements in NDC standards, competitor offerings, and market opportunities.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Lead feedback touchpoints with travel agencies, GDSs, and internal teams to gather and prioritize requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure alignment and understanding of deliverables.

Product Development:

  • Translate business requirements into detailed product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead Jira intake with key NDC vendors to prioritize the request backlog, and work on sprint planning.
  • Develop and maintain NDC Partner Hub content to share the NDC strategy, resources, and key information with travel agencies, aggregators, and other stakeholders.
  • Leverage insights from the IATA Airline Retailing Maturity (ARM) Index to assess and enhance the organizations capabilities, aligning product strategies with industry benchmarks.

Process Development and Optimization:

  • Develop and refine product development processes to ensure efficiency, scalability, and alignment with business goals.
  • Facilitate a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and resolving process bottlenecks and fostering team innovation.

Performance:

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success, and track metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Continuously optimize our product based on user feedback, data insights, and changing market needs.

Education and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Statistics, or Economics is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management or a related role, preferably within airline distribution or travel technology.
  • Strong knowledge of IATA NDC standards, schemas, and protocols.
  • Familiarity with the IATA Airline Retailing Maturity (ARM) Index and its application in product development and industry alignment.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with experience in leveraging data to inform decisions.
  • Familiarity with airline revenue management, merchandising, or retailing strategies.
  • Technical knowledge of APIs, XML/JSON, and distribution technology platforms.
  • Experience managing/ implementing products or initiatives
  • High-level strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to convert big ideas into reality.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong quantitative and research skills with proven data interpretation capabilities.
  • Passion for knowledge sharing, learning, and teamwork.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Strong data and analytical skills with a track record of providing strategic recommendations.
  • Experience with ATPCO, GDS platforms, or Sabre PSS, Postman is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Distribution Strategy, airline/travel vendors, and third-party distribution models is an asset.
