We wish to strengthen our position in the Power Advisory & Asset Management (PAAM) group and Power Market segment across North America.

BBA has a new opportunity for a New Graduate analyst role in our Calgary office to support the delivery of Power Advisory & Asset Management services within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. This role will provide the successful candidate a wide range of challenging projects within the utility and power sector, along with exposure to industrial sectors such as oil and gas and mining.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in the delivering of top-down and bottom-up load forecasts for power utilities.
  • Develop models that account for Energy Transition trends and triggers (e.g., EV/DER penetration, data centers).
  • Perform end-to-end data analytics, including data collection, transformation, analysis, and visualization.
  • Develop Asset Analytic dashboards and key performance indicators for our clients to better visualize and manage their activities.
  • Support other asset management projects, such as asset management plans and total cost of ownership models.
  • Support other Power and Renewables team projects focused on energy storage and renewables development as well as electrification of industrial sectors (e.g. oil and gas, mining).
  • Research public policy relating to the energy sector and support the development of materials for what these policies mean for our client market.
  • The ability and willingness to support hands-on consulting project work, including data analysis, research, stakeholder interviews, and preparation of final deliverables is essential.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, excel functions and/or programming is required.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about electric utilities and power markets.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about the development of econometric forecasts and financial models.
  • Familiarity of products and services in some or all of the following areas is considered an asset:
  • Data processing and data analytics products (Tableau, Power BI etc.)
  • Utility and generation company regulations, both domestically within Canada as well as internationally
  • Technologies and systems used by power system operators (SCADA, Metering management, GIS, CAD)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Business, Finance, or a related field from an accredited university
  • 0-1 years experience
