Please Note: This is a hybrid work position in Calgary Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week. This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week. This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues. Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Overview of role:

The Intermediate Analyst is responsible for being a technical resource within the team the role reports, supporting the various technology systems that are key to delivering value to WestJet. Being a part of a operational pod, the intermediate analyst will administer, implement key improvements, troubleshoot issues, and resolve incidents within the technology stack that supports the business unit. Playing a key role in change, incident, and release management for the product stack, the analyst will maintain the stability and functionality of the systems supported.

The analyst will be involved in scrum methodology and will participate in estimations, planning, and delivery of sprints. Can be asked to provide input on developing requirements and propose solutions that meet business needs.

Key deliverables / responsibilities include:

  • Administration of relevant technology within their product or operationally focused team
  • Delivery of sprint work items identified as priority within timelines.
  • Leads in change, incident, problem Management tasks within product team.
  • Should have skills to build automation and be flexible to learn new areas of skills depending on industry demand.
  • Should have decent verbal and written communication.
  • Understanding of overall architecture of technology supported and how to identify and troubleshoot challenges within
  • Ticket management, documentation of steps taken to fix or improve work items.
  • Knowledge management input, development of support runbooks and transition to operation process
  • Improvement of security posture within technology stack supported.
  • Participation in relevant audits if required.
  • Requirement to be on call for supporting a Tier 1 / 2 platform or process.
  • Mentorship of Analyst group within the wider team

Experience and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Field
  • 3+ years in relevant technical area and looking for someone having prior knowledge on one or more areas.
    • API understanding
    • Message streaming, Queueing and
    • Batch integration
  • Nice to have understanding on Java or its derivatives software languages.
  • Expected to have fair knowledge on Devops and any of automation coding tools such as Terraform or Bicep or Python or ansible.
  • Good to have working experience on Agile frameworks on using Azure ADO or Jira or any similar product.
  • Fair knowledge or familiarity with regulation such as GDPR, PIPEDA and PCI DSS standards
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to manage multiple items.
  • Incident and problem management skills
  • Willingness to learn related technology and business process.
  • Ability to determine root cause from outcomes.
