SAIT’s Information Technology Services department handles all software and hardware needs, as well as technological and networking issues for both employees and students who rely heavily on computer systems across our campuses. Technical support — which includes help with computer hardware and software technical problems, email, audio-visual needs and more — is available to everyone at SAIT, whether the problem occurs at home or on-campus.

The Opportunity

SAIT is seeking an experienced, visionary leader to serve as Director of Applications and Infrastructure within our Information and Technology Services (ITS) Department. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic team of professionals in delivering cutting-edge technology solutions that support SAIT’s mission: to prepare students for successful careers and lives. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Director will drive innovation and service excellence across SAIT’s applications and infrastructure, ensuring an exceptional experience for students, faculty, and staff.

The Role

    • Lead and develop long-term strategic plans for teams within the Applications and Infrastructure function, aligning with SAIT’s institutional goals and vision.
    • Work with direct reports to develop annual roadmaps and oversee their implementation.
    • Provide leadership that fosters teamwork, respect, and open communication across the department.
    • Manage the full employee lifecycle, from hiring and training to performance enhancement and offboarding.
    • Build and mentor high-performing, customer-service-oriented teams, promoting professional development and engagement.
    • Promote intentional decision-making with a focus on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
    • Shape a leadership culture that encourages continuous improvement, service-excellence, and inclusivity and positions team members for long-term growth.
    • Oversee ITS applications and infrastructure services, selecting and enhancing tools and systems to meet institutional needs.
    • Collaborate with SAIT leadership and departments to improve IT services and pursue strategic initiatives.
    • Build strategic relationships with external vendors, partners, and peer institutions to drive innovation and ensure SAIT remains at the forefront of technology advancements.
    • Lead change management initiatives with empathy and transparency, building trust and alignment across teams.
    • Drive the continuous improvement of SAIT’s Applications and Infrastructure environments and recommend new technology solutions.
    • Implement and manage a “cloud-first” approach for service delivery and innovation.
    • Ensure the security and performance of systems, applications, and infrastructure, and lead assessments of security controls.
    • Develop and maintain policies for securing SAIT’s technology environment.
    • Define and implement performance metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and reporting processes for technology services.
    • Establish and maintain service-level agreements (SLAs) for ITS-supported systems and services.
    • Lead departmental budgeting, tracking, and forecasting efforts.

Education & Qualifications

    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, an advanced degree is preferred.
    • 10+ years of progressively responsible IT management experience, supporting application or infrastructure teams.
    • 5+ years of direct experience managing technical managers.
    • Demonstrated success in cloud-based business applications and infrastructure management.
    • Proven ability to manage organizational change with empathy and transparency.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of project management best practices.
    • Experience leading teams in the selection, implementation, support, and enhancement of complex IT systems across a variety of hosting environments (especially cloud-based).
    • Experience leading IT systems selection, implementation, and enhancement across diverse hosting environments.

Skills & Experience

    • Extensive knowledge of cloud platforms, hybrid cloud environments, and cloud migration strategies.
    • Expertise in enterprise software (ERP, CRM, HRIS, financial systems) and application lifecycle management.
    • In-depth understanding of network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, and VPN technologies.
    • Knowledge of server management, storage solutions, virtualization, and disaster recovery strategies.
    • Experience with IT service management (ITSM), DevOps practices, and service-oriented architecture.
    • Knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies and integration between development and operations teams.
    • Strong grasp of cybersecurity, data governance, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
    • Proven ability to manage disaster recovery plans, high availability systems, and data infrastructure.
    • Experience managing third-party vendor relationships and negotiating technology contracts.
    • Awareness of emerging trends like AI, machine learning, blockchain, and IoT in higher education.
