The Opportunity


The Pipe Integrity Data Analytics & Reporting team is seeking a motivated Data Engineer or Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. Our mission is to use data analytics to deliver value to our Pipe Integrity stakeholders. In this role, you will support our data analytics and engineering efforts, contributing to the development and maintenance of data pipelines, data analysis, and reporting. You will have the opportunity to empower our stakeholder teams with advanced data analytics and consistent reporting, enhancing the Pipe Integrity data consumption across over 90,000 km of natural gas pipelines spanning Canada, Mexico and the USA.

What you'll do

  • Work closely with Pipe Integrity, Data & Digital teams to streamline execution of pipe integrity programs, prioritize work activities, and develop actionable repeatable, sustainable reporting.
  • Assist in the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines
  • Support our stakeholder teams responsibly using applied data and analytics using analytics tools
  • Conduct data analysis to support business decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Support the implementation of data governance and compliance measures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Degreed Engineers must be registered, or eligible to be registered, as a professional engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA in good standing
  • Applicants without an Engineering degree but with significant relevant experience may be considered for the Technologist or Analyst job ladder.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience.
  • Strong oral and written business communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence.
  • Highly motivated individual with intermediate analytical skills, who can work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Must be results oriented with a drive to explore new technologies and value-added opportunities for the organization.
  • Requires ability to be self-sufficient and self-motivated with proven ability to work autonomously.
  • Knowledge of relational and dimensional database structures, theories, principles, and practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Competent programming in Python or comparable programming language
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, problem solving, decision making, and technical skills.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Power Apps, SQL Server, AWS platform, MS Excel, and Alteryx
  • Knowledge of AWS cloud-based reporting solutions (Athena, Data Brew, Glue, and Sage Maker Canvas).
  • Proficiency with Canadian and US pipeline regulations (such as CSA Z662, 49 CFR 192, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in probabilistic analysis, statistical analysis and data analytics.
  • Proven experience on AI/ML projects would be considered an asset.
