About this opportunity:
The Business Development Specialist plays a pivotal role in achieving Cenovus’s goals by improving the value from its asset base. This will be achieved by originating, negotiating, and implementing commercial deals that align with the strategic imperatives of the organization and assemble business opportunities. The Specialist will, handle contracts, and resolve legal disputes, working closely with internal and external counterparts to deliver on Cenovus’s business cases. This role will require outstanding influencing, communication, and negotiation skills, combined with strong business, commercial, and financial savvy.
What you’ll do:
Build the review of unsolicited inbound opportunities and sales processes, as well as generate ideas and recommendations for portfolio improvement alternatives
Coordinate with Land A&D and Corporate Development to ensure consistent process evaluations and standards of analysis
Track and provide market intelligence on transactions, industry activity, and capital markets
Present opportunity analysis and recommendations to leaders and coordinate the development and maintenance of templates and governance processes to help standardize business development activities
Craft financial analyses to assess risks and opportunities for various inorganic strategic scenarios
Facilitate area-based inorganic reviews to make portfolio recommendations, including development, operations, A&D, and land strategies
Negotiate firsthand with applicable external parties and initiate and review commercial alternatives that support business strategy and corporate priorities, including ESG and market access
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
12+ years of proven experience is preferred, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, or Engineering
Demonstrated ability with leading commercial deals and implementing new business opportunities from initial project justification to investment decision readiness
Strong business, commercial, and financial foresight, with the ability to negotiate successfully in high-impact scenarios
Strategic thinker capable of redefining ideas into actionable work plans and driving cross-functional team alignment
Exceptional communication skills, including advocating for ideas and tailoring messaging to diverse audiences
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in team environments and optimally influence others without formal authority
