Job Summary

A senior scrum master enables an RBC scrum team to run a medium-to-complex agile development process that seamlessly aligns with business and technical needs. The Senior Scrum Master is a key role within an Agile delivery team as it removes any impediments that obstruct a team's pursuit of its sprint goals and ultimately deliver a product that generates business benefits for one or several RBC lines of business.

Job Description

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Initiative delivery:
    • Facilitating medium-to-high complexity Agile initiatives from initiation through release, providing oversight to ensure alignment with RBC Agile/Scrum practices, including but not limited to, project kick-off, sprint, release and deployment planning
    • Accountable alongside the scrum team for the achievement of release objectives and results that meet LOB stakeholders' needs and expectations
    • Manage risks to delivery
    • Tracking and reporting financials for the Team
    • Navigating and identifying shared IT services required by the team in the delivery of its objectives
    • Team activity facilitation (medium to large size teams):
  • Facilitate discussion leading to collective decision-making, goal setting and conflict resolution within the team
    • Remove impediments to delivery success through the proactive management of external dependencies, medium-to-high complexity team problem-solving and the development of new solutions or approaches to ongoing challenges; has the authority to execute against new approaches and escalate issues through business and/or IT channels where necessary
    • Accountable for creating and maintaining the appropriate vehicles for open communication within the scrum team (e.g. tracker boards) to create a trusting and safe team environment
    • Continuously seek to improve team performance by promoting joint accountability for results and solving productivity issues
    • Facilitating and engaging in business analysis, user experience and technical conversations across platforms and multiple levels of influence
  • Cross-functional Communication: Communicate cross functionally, ensuring transparency of progress and outcomes; Report team progress and accomplishment up and across; Facilitate status updates, product demos and retrospectives
  • Coaching: With the assistance of the Agile Coach, provide proactive coaching to the team and recommends continuous improvement of processes to optimize team productivity

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must-Have

  • 2+ years of experience as a Scrum Master - where Scrum principles, practices and theory were diligently applied
  • 5+ years of experience in software development and/or project management and/or business (system) analysis or other relevant professional experience
  • 2+ years of working on medium-to-high complexity initiatives
  • Experience working in a dependent multi agile team environment
  • Agile Framework and Practice (Level 3): Working within and implementing the principles of agile methodology.
  • Business Analysis (Level 2): Investigating and analyzing business situations, evaluating options for business improvements, elaborating and defining requirements and ensuring effective implementation in line with the business needs
  • Application Development, Support and Maintenance (Level 1): Knowledge and ability to design, define, construct, enhance, support and maintain application software on one or more platforms including web

Nice-to-Have

  • Basic knowledge of capital markets systems and products
  • Ability to apply RBC Agile Management Framework and well documented Agile techniques (User Stories, Burndown techniques, Acceptance Test Driven Development, Continuous testing, etc.); SAFe experience is an asset
